A CHAT WITH WILMA

Q: WHAT WAS IT THAT DREW YOU INTO ELECTRONIC MUSIC?
A:
Trentemøller's "The Last Resort" album from 2006

Q: HOW DIFFERENT OR SIMILAR IS PERFORMING AS A CLASSICAL ARTIST VS AN ELECTRONIC ARTIST?
A:
Classical music training is based on a very strict regime of practice, study and perfectionism, which has its benefits in an industry as competitive as electronic music. Years of performance practice in the form of concerts, auditions and recitals prepares an artist for the stage as they are not only comfortable being in the spotlight but have also developed skills in live troubleshooting and dealing with pressure. The art of stage performance can only be learnt from experience. On the downside, self criticism and the reach for perfectionism (which is a common struggle for trained musicians) can often blur one's vision or sense of worth, this is often referred to as imposter syndrome. The ability to view your own work objectively doesn't come so naturally (in my experience). In saying this, I am very grateful for those formative years of study and after a complex transition from classical to electronic, now I simply wouldn't have it any other way.

Q: WHAT IS YOUR CURRENT LIVE ELECTRONIC HYBRID SETUP?
A:
Electric cello, standard DJ equipment and an all in one FX pedal system by BOSS.

Q: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AS A DJ SO FAR?
A:
I honestly feel there are too many to choose from for multiple reasons. But among my favourite sets are Dragon Dreaming 2023, Esoteric 2023 & 2024 and Elements 2020 (the latter was my first main stage hybridf performance to around 3000 people). I mention these due to the overall experience and production quality however there have been many other shows that I've walked away from in awe.

Q: WHAT'S IN THE PIPELINE FOR WILMA?
A:
Whilst I do have a handful of large shows locked in, I plan to spend the winter months locked in the studio for the most part. I see an opportunity to produce more and work on new concepts for my brand before festival season kicks off again. I have a string of unreleased originals and collaborations that will be landing over the next year so keep an ear out for those.
