A CHAT WITH BUTTERZ
Q: WHAT WAS IT THAT DREW YOU INTO ELECTRONIC MUSIC?
A: A lot of reasons really. I’d say a main urge of mine was to find new music constantly. The more I dug the more I found music I liked more than the last. I had a number of good mates influencing me and showing me the ropes and history of dance music which I dove into pretty extensively. Electronic music like Chemical Brothers, Basement Jaxx, Pnau & Daft Punk were all strong influences as well as stuff like Leftield, Orbital, Rebirth of Cool, Dope on Plastic & Mushroom Jazz really opened my eyes up to step away from more commercial music.
Q: YOU'RE AN EXTREMELY GIFTED ARTIST, WHETHER IT'S MUSIC PRODUCTION OR VISUAL ART. WHERE DO YOU FIND THE INSPIRATION TO KEEP CREATING?
A: Well, thank you very much! It has come from a very long time trying to carve out a niche for myself I suppose. Having the opportunity to work on projects like Earth Frequency, Interstellar Groove & Mushroom Valley are defiinitely up there when it comes to good motivation. It’s amazing being able to see the ideas come to life especially in such large scales. I would 100% be doing art anyway. Creating is the motivation!
Q: YOU'VE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE MUSIC INDUSTRY FOR MANY YEARS. WHAT IS THE ONE PIECE OF ADVICE YOU WISH YOU KNEW WHEN YOU FIRST STARTED?
A: I knew this one but haven’t actioned it as much as I would have liked to but… FINISH MUSIC and release it. Haha
Q: WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR MOST SPECIAL PERFORMANCE AS A DJ SO FAR?
A: There’s a few but top sets would be Main Stage Elements Love Camp Closing Party 2021 & Closing Mushroom Valley a few years ago. Closing sessions @ Love Camp in general. Also this one time when Viktor (breakfast club) & I were playing at Laruche and the entire back bar smashed and fell down while we played due to tunes being super bassy. I pulled the tunes down briefly only to get the nod to keep playing by the manager and the place absolutely erupted after that. Super fun. I’m looking forward to making more back bars explode. Haha
Q: WHAT'S IN THE PIPELINE FOR BUTTERZ?
A: I have a bunch of music in the pipeline. Stepping into a few new territories, a few being Garage w/ Grug (8ball Audio) Some downtempo bass stuff under Hugz & some fresh new 4x4 steezy numbers. Just have to finish them. Haha. There’ll be some Love Camp parties coming up and a few interstate trips, as well as new art & clothing to release.
